A note to you from Maureen Mulligan, executive director...

Dear Friend,

Coastal Habitat for Humanity truly believes that there’s no place like home. HOME is where the heart is—a safe haven, a comfort zone, a peaceful retreat. The love of home has a different meaning for everyone. For some it might be a tail-wagging dog that greets you at the door after a long day, or maybe it’s the simple pleasure of picking fresh vegetables from your garden.

Imagine how it would feel to have your treasured home and belongings destroyed in the blink of an eye by a natural disaster. Many families felt that devastating loss after Superstorm Sandy ravaged the Jersey shore in 2012. Two years later, Coastal Habitat is still receiving new applications for assistance each week, and we need your help to continue having an impact!

To-date, Coastal Habitat has returned 30 families – including veterans, senior citizens and persons with special needs—to their homes. A retired couple from the Shark River Hills section of Neptune is one of those families.

"We expected the house to be in bad shape after the storm but never, ever could have imagined how it was. Coastal Habitat’s volunteers did such an amazing job rebuilding our house, that we can come back and spend the rest of our years here with our family and grandkids."

Sandy destroyed their home in which they raised three children - a place with 44 years of family memories and traditions.  Today, because of thousands of volunteer hours and donations from people like you and your neighbors, they are back home and once again welcoming their grandchildren for sleepovers.

Although a great deal has been accomplished, beaches and boardwalks have been replaced, and Sandy becomes a distant memory, we should not forget those still displaced by the storm who are in need of housing assistance and a place to call home.  With the holiday season drawing near, we are reminded that it is a time to give thanks for OUR homes and all of our blessings, and to extend a generous hand of support to those in need. I hope you will consider making a special gift to Coastal Habitat this year.

On behalf of the many families who will benefit from your gift but may never have the opportunity to express their gratitude in person, we extend our heartfelt thanks for your generosity.  From everyone at Coastal Habitat for Humanity, we wish you a joyous holiday season shared with family and friends in the comfort of your home.

In gratitude,
Maureen Mulligan
Executive Director
